Powerful Immunity Boosters
The number of UK coronavirus cases is on the rise.
As of 5 April, nearly 48,000 people now testing positive and a total of 4,934 deaths.
The actual number of people with the respiratory infection in the UK is estimated to be much higher though—as only those in hospital and some NHS staff are currently tested.
The biggest question we now have is: When will a coronavirus vaccine be ready?
According to an article by the World Economic Forum, because of the complexity in developing a vaccine, it will take over a year to produce and that’s already considered incredibly fast.
How a vaccine work is that it prepares your immune system—the body’s natural defence network—to recognize, fight and destroy certain bacteria and viruses.
This is also the reason why many experts hypothesize that keeping your immune system healthy could help reduce your risk of getting the coronavirus.
Unfortunately, there's no evidence at this point that can prove this.
But regardless of what the situation may be.
Keeping your immune system in top shape may hands-down be the best way to keep yourself in a good mental and physical states.
Let me introduce a lesser-known immunity supporter, an important compound found naturally in many fruits and vegetables—Flavonoids.
What Are Natural Flavonoids
Flavonoids are the largest group of Phytonutrients. And Phytonutrients refers to compounds found in various plants which are believed to be beneficial to human health.
There are about 7,000 known flavonoids and some of the best-known flavonoids are quercetin and kaempferol.
Similar to other phytonutrients, flavonoids are powerful antioxidants, with anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties that support the immune system.
In recent years, scientists have often used the presence of flavonoids to explain some of the health benefits associated with diets rich in fruits and vegetables.
Foods that Contain Flavonoids
Almost all fruits and vegetables contain some forms of flavonoids.
The most common are citrus fruits, Acai berry, red and purple fruits (such as blueberries and apples), onions, ginger, broccoli, asparagus, and leafy greens (such as kale and spinach).
Our Advanced Acai Berry and Advanced Green Superfood also contain a high amount of flavonoids that are often praised for their antioxidant qualities that the body use to fight damaging free radicals.
Diets and supplements rich in flavonoids are sometimes associated with cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disease prevention. It is not yet clear whether the flavonoids themselves are responsible, however, there is a strong correlation.
Popular Bee Products which contain Flavonoids
There are some easy and tasty ways to get your flavonoids. For example, when popular bee products such as manuka honey, royal jelly, and bee pollen are paired with other essential vitamins and minerals, they can really pack a punch when it comes to effectively supporting your immune system.
Manuka Honey
Studies have shown some positive results from using manuka honey medicinally because of its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties.
Additionally, manuka honey has been shown to be an effective food source that could accelerate the healing process when dealing with upper respiratory infections and other ailments.
Bee Pollen
Bee pollen is also loaded with flavonoids and has more than 250 biologically active components which include protein, fatty acids, lipids, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
That's probably why this powerhouse has shown evidence that it reduces inflammation, increases wound healing and improve immunity, which is important factors when it comes to preventing viruses and disease.
Royal Jelly
Royal jelly research suggests that several of its nutrients, other than flavonoids, are beneficial to your health. This is because royal jelly contains minerals and vitamins including vitamin B. It also has polyphenols and is rich in bioactive compounds that help support immune health.
Additionally, it could possibly help lower cholesterol and blood pressure while regulating blood sugar by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.
