Helping people with their health problems can often be like peeling back the layers of an onion.
You see, something is always causing someone’s health issues…
And in different people, those causes will be different (even if the symptoms are the same).
Therefore, it needs a little investigation, digger deeper to find out what the cause could be (as if we were peeling an onion), as well as a focus on building health (as opposed to just masking the problems).
Unfortunately, this is very different to the conventional approach to chronic health problems (such as Crohn’s, Colitis, IBS, Arthritis, Psoriasis, chronic pain and Fibromyalgia).
There is rarely a focus on getting to the root of someone’s problems.
Doctors typically aren’t trying to understand why someone is ill in the first place.
Or trying to nourish them and give them what they need to feel better.
Instead they are normally just trying to mask the problem (with medication and surgery).
If a plant was dying, you would nourish it with water and sunlight, not just paint the leaves green!
You have inflammation? Here’s some anti-inflammatory drugs.
Autoimmune condition? Here’s something to dampen your immune system.
Skin problems? Here’s some steroid cream.
Pain? Here’s some pain relief.
Conventional medicine is perfect for dealing with one off infections, broken limbs, emergencies, trauma, etc but experience shows that it almost always isn’t satisfactory for helping someone (in the long term) with chronic disease.
We aren’t saying that their approach is wrong or not needed.
Meds are almost always needed for a period of time.
But without focusing on building health, and getting to the cause of someone’s problems, they can never hope to get someone feeling as good as possible.
As you might know, Donna (my amazing wife) used to suffer with Ulcerative Colitis.
For a long time she was in a very bad way with her health extremely fatigued, in a lot of pain, and was visiting the toilet (urgently) several times a day.
She is now symptom and medication free but to get to that place took a lot of trial and error, research, and searching for answers that we weren’t getting from the doctors.
It’s this experience that showed us that people with chronic health problems typically aren't given all the help they need to feel dramatically better, and live a happy, confident life on their own terms.
