A Cause of Fatigue
How are your energy levels?
When I first met Donna my wife the thing that hit me most about her illness (Ulcerative Colitis) was how tired it left her.
It was difficult for me to understand sometimes why she was so exhausted if we went out for the day.
Or, if we had an evening out, the next day she would barely want to do anything.
Obviously, over time, I came to understand why it was and now obviously see that a huge number of people with health issues are fatigued to some extent.
There’s a struggle to wake up, struggle throughout the day, but then often don’t sleep very well at night.
Many people are also reliant on energy drinks, caffeine or sugar for a boost to keep them going and will experience BIG energy slumps mid-afternoon or early evening.
Life can be a constant struggle.
Does this apply to you at all?
Some even just see it as a sign of getting older.
But that’s wrong.
These symptoms can be for a number of reasons, but one major cause is what’s commonly known as “adrenal fatigue”.
Adrenal Fatigue
Your adrenals sit just above your kidneys.
Despite its name, it’s not the adrenal glands themselves are fatigued, but rather it’s a problem in the signals coming from your brain to the adrenals.
One of the roles of the adrenals is to release the hormone known as cortisol.
Cortisol (which is the “stress hormone”) can often get a bad rap but it is very important as it gives us energy for the “flight or fight” response when we are in perceived danger.
Cortisol should normally be highest in the morning and gradually reduce through the day.
It should be at its lowest when you go to bed to help you get a good night’s sleep.
However, this rhythm is often out of whack in many people.
The adrenals often don’t produce as much cortisol as is needed at the right times.
This is what’s known as ‘adrenal fatigue’ or more appropriately ‘HPA Axis Dysfunction’.
The cause of this dysfunction can vary but it’s essentially because we are exposed to chronic stressors in today’s world
Emotional stress, food sensitivities, infections, too much activity, gut bacteria problems and nutrient deficiencies can all be causes of chronic stress.
Addressing those things is the solution to getting your energy levels back.
That’s why short-term fixes, energy drinks, and even medication will never get you more energy in the long term.
Some of our supplements have also been shown to help with energy levels.
In particular, many of our customers with fatigue have benefited from our “Advanced Vitality”, “Advanced Magnesium”, and “Advanced Multi”.
They all form part of our “Energy Bundle” which comes at a large saving.
